GRAPPLING GI & NO-GI – PANKRATION – COMBAT GRAPPLING

Martigny (SUI), 07-08 May 2011

Salle du Midi

Rue du Simplon 4C

1920 Martigny

INTRODUCTION

The first leg of the FILA Grand Prix series, four high-level international tournaments counting for the

World Ranking of athletes competing in grappling, pankration, and combat grappling, will take place in

Martigny on 07-08 mai 2011.

Hometown of the FILA President, Martigny has a long wrestling tradition and distinguished itself

several times by hosting major international events, such as the senior World Championship in 1989,

the veteran World Championship in 2001 and 2005, and the qualifying tournament for the Beijing

Olympic Games in 2008.

Athletes from all countries are invited to take part in the tournament that — in addition to top-level

grappling, pankration, and combat grappling competitions — will feature a highly exciting program:

– Points allocated to the first 5 in each weight category to enter the World Ranking that will

crown the “Athletes of the Year” in each discipline by a special FILA award and cash prizes.

– 1000 CHF in cash prizes to the winners of the absolute category in grappling (Gi and No-Gi).

– Possibility for all athletes to participate in a 3-hour seminar with the American grappling and

Mixed Martial Arts legend Jeff Monson.

– Possibility to attend the 3rd edition of the “Hard Fighting Championship”, a French-based MMA

promotion, that will host a France vs. the world the evening before the tournament.

– Possibility for athletes competing in combat grappling to be noticed by the HFC promoters and

consider their transition to professional level.

The tournament will also be the first occasion to compete for the Swiss athletes newly united under

the Swiss Federation of BJJ & Associated Styles, official representative for grappling, pankration, and

combat grappling in Switzerland. The best Swiss athletes of the tournament will qualify for the

European Championship taking place in Ukraine on 09-11 June 2011.

PARTICIPATION

1. Only the National Federations or Committees duly affiliated to FILA for the year 2011 can

participate in the tournament.

2. Each competitor must present his/her national licence valid for 2011 and personal passport at

accreditation.

3. Competitors wishing to purchase a FILA licence including insurance coverage for all

international competitions entered in the 2011 calendar can do so at registration for 100 CHF,

80 EUR or 120 USD. A passport copy and photo must accompany every request.

4. All competitors must have private or federal insurance coverage.

5. The number of competitors of the same nationality per weight category is not limited.

6. Each competitor must be 20 or older. Competitors aged 18 and 19 will be allowed to

participate upon presentation of a medical certificate. Age and nationality will be checked with

the passport at weigh-in.

7. The delegations in need of a visa to enter Switzerland must send their visa application forms

to SUI@fila-grappling.com before 20 March 2011. The organizer will take care of sending

official invitation letters to the Swiss consular representation in their country of residence.

8. Nominative entries must be sent to FILA at SUI@fila-grappling.com before 30 April 2011 in

order to ensure smooth registration and weigh-in procedures.

9. The competitors who would miss the registration and weigh-in times set on the program will be

denied access to the competition. It is their duty to arrive early enough to have enough room

to go through the procedure within the allotted times.

10. The competitors are allowed to enter several styles (No-Gi, Gi, pankration, and combat

grappling), provided that they undergo the official weigh-in and drawing of lots held before the

beginning of each style. If a registered athlete has not turned up by the end of the official

weigh-in time to re-check his/her weight and draw a number, he/she will be removed from the

brackets and will not be allowed to compete.

11. In accordance with the FILA Regulations, athletes with a professional MMA record of more

than 4 fights are not eligible to compete in combat grappling.

12. Athletes competing in the tournament are under the exclusive responsibility of their National

Federation or Committee through their respective coaches. Any breach of the rules will be

sanctioned according to the FILA Disciplinary Regulations.

TECHNICAL CONDITIONS

1. The competition will run according to the FILA official rules on 3 FILA approved mats and in

the following weight categories: Men 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 90, 110kg, absolute and Women 50,

55, 60, 65, 75kg, absolute. No weight allowance will be accepted.

2. The warm-up hall and sauna (Sporting Club des Lutteurs, rue des Ecoles 7, 1920 Martigny)

3. Each competitor must undergo the medical examination before the registration and weigh-in,

which take place at the competition venue.

4. The weigh-in for all styles (including Gi Grappling) is done in shorts or underwear.

5. The drawing of lots for position in the brackets will be done manually at the time of weigh-in.

Once the brackets are printed to correspond the lot numbers, no modification whatsoever can

be requested by the competitors.

6. Each competitor is required to wear a FILA approved competition uniform, as laid down in the

International Regulations of each discipline:

cash prize. Additional prizes to the absolute women’s category and to pankration will be

determined depending on the number of participants.

Ranking of athletes:

1st – place 5 points

2nd – place 4 points

3rd – places 3 points

5th – places 1 point

13. The first three teams in each style will receive a cup.

REFEREES

receive a discount on the participation fee. If they change their mind or have a medical forfeit,

the full amount will remain to the organizer.

In such case, they will be required to pay the single-day participation fee again and will not

receive any discount.
